We are launching a new program within a research study, in which non-clinical, lay callers have regular phone conversations with Lone Star Circle of Care patients who have diabetes. Callers will engage participants with the primary goal of empathetic and authentic listening, eliciting conversation from the participant on topics of their choice. Callers will simultaneously listen for signs of health issues or declining health habits, and gently encourage and motivate participants to resolve these issues. Callers will track relevant information and escalate health issues as necessary. Because this program is part of a research study, adherence to protocol and data accuracy are of utmost importance.This is a remote temporary program specific position and will last for an estimated 7-10 months, not to exceed an end date of 08/31/23.8-19 hours a week; remote; flexible hours, may include nights and/or weekends.**Remote work: Pre-approval on state eligibility during the offer process will be required for remote work.ResponsibilitiesCall a panel of participants at set times each week to engage in conversation in an informal manner with the primary goal of learning about people's lives and providing empathetic, authentic listening where the participant feels heard and listened to while also supporting the participants self-management of diabetes.Build trusted relationship with participants treating all participants with respect, dignity and understanding.Follow study protocol procedures regarding scheduling phone calls and engaging participants on specific topics.Listen for potential concerns related to participants' health and well-being, and follow pre-defined escalation paths as necessary.Identify new resources to meet the needs of participants.Validate and document community resources in caller tool.Deliver information on community resources to participantsMaintain privacy and confidentiality of participants' health and other personal information.Take detailed call notes electronically to help with conversation continuity and collection of data for the purposes of the research study.Participate in reflections and other team conversations to help create culture of learning and support.Other related duties as assigned.Required QualificationsHigh school or GED equivalent or higher. Ability to communicate effectively over the phone. Ability to listen closely to learn about a person's life and what matters to them most. Ability to engage a wide variety of people with an array of conversations styles, including those that may be reticent to talk or slow to participate in conversation. Demonstrated commitment and passion in service to others, whether in your family, community or public service. Experience interacting with & understanding of vulnerable populations and people from diverse backgrounds or a clear openness in doing so. Reliable; attention to detail; comfortable using a computer. Works well independently. Strong time management skill.
